Trekking Machuca – Río Grande

We travel to the Andes Mountains to the town of Machuca at 13,120 ft where we start the hike through an old grazing trail. We descend through the canyon crossing the meadows and grasslands. We pass through an old hamlet called Peñaliri, where we can take a break. Downstream and ending, we find the town of Río Grande, located at 10,560 ft where we visit the Church of San Santiago and the streets with constructions of mud, stone and straw. In total we do 6 hours of difficult walking. We return to San Pedro de Atacama by the road that comes from Calama.
